An effective board is a critical component of an organisation’s business success. The concept of board evaluations to assess effectiveness was introduced by the late Sir Derek Higgs ten years ago, and the UK Corporate Governance Code 2010 subsequently recommended that FTSE 350 boards conduct independent, external board evaluations, at least every three years.
The ICSA is due to consult on a Code of Practice to drive standards in this sensitive area where experience has been variable.
On 18 September 2014, TMF Group kindly hosted a webinar on Effective Board Evaluations, where I was guest speaker. The webinar looks at the draft Code to explore what improvements are considered necessary, and concludes with tips for ensuring an effective evaluation.
